Looks like we’re getting more Sonic, but we’ll have to wait a bit. Paramount just announced Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is hitting theaters March 19, 2027, riding high on the success of the third movie that’s already raked in $422 million worldwide.

No shock they’re making another one – these movies keep printing money. The whole franchise has crossed $1 billion, with each film doing better than the last. Shadow’s debut in the third movie (with Keanu Reeves absolutely nailing it) probably helped push that one to the top spot.
Woo-hoo! The Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise zooms past $1 billion at the global box office! Thank you to the best fans in the world 💙💛❤️🖤 pic.twitter.com/bf88J5etxt

They’re keeping quiet about the plot, but after that mid-credits scene in Sonic 3, fans probably have a good idea what’s coming. Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba are likely coming back as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Jim Carrey’s been Dr. Robotnik in all three movies so far, and he’s said he’s down for more if the script’s fun.
Right now, Sonic 4’s got that March 2027 date all to itself, though that’ll probably change. Pretty wild to think about how far these movies have come since that first terrible Sonic design had everyone freaking out. Now they’re second only to Mario in North American video game movie earnings.
Guess we’ve got two years to speculate about what’s next for the blue blur. Maybe they’ll surprise us with a new miniseries to tide us over?
