The Low-Key Found Quickly

Here’s a brand new sentence for you: Walmart has just launched its own Minecraft server. Yes, the international superstore chain. They’re calling it “Walmart Skyward” and it’s a Java server that claims to be a unique adventure for 1 to 4 players. There are currently 6 playable chapters full of custom content, challenges, and rewards. You and up to 3 friends will play as Rex, Hawke, Zoe, and Frankie to embark on a quest to find your missing childhood friend while learning about a civilization known as “the Golden People.”

Walmart, alongside a board of Minecraft influencers, decided to create and launch this immersive experience with the hopes to drive Walmart’s influence as a digital destination. To help with this, they’ve also launched a Discord server where the community can come up with new ideas and collaborations together. As a part of this collab, Discord has begun giving out an in game hippo pet for people who complete a video quest within the Discord app.

Skyward can be played for free on Java: Minecraft Edition at Skyward.gg, with new episodes planning to be released every Friday AT 10 a.m. Eastern Time. In total, it should take about 8 weeks before the adventure is playable in its entirety.

What do you make of Walmart creating a digital adventure to establish themselves more within the metaverse? The success of this project will certainly decide if more companies will follow.

(Microsoft and Mojang do not sponsor this server or content in any way).
